Where AI is already used in manufacturing
- Quality control. Image recognition for defect detection, and automated visual inspection, with defects caught in real time.
- Predictive maintenance. AI-supported sensor analysis of machine condition, which optimizes maintenance cycles.
- Process optimization. Intelligent production planning, raising overall efficiency and product quality.
- Robotics. Self-learning manufacturing robots.
AI can also be used very effectively when it is based on simulation data.
What still holds adoption back
- Insufficient data quantity or quality.
- Complex integration into existing systems.
- Security and data-protection requirements.
- A shortage of skilled specialists, and potentially high investment costs.
- Missing standards and best practices for large-scale AI deployment.
These factors delay implementation, and getting past them takes close cooperation between IT, production, and management.
