Our interview in the expert survey: How AI is revolutionizing production

In March 2025, Digital Manufacturing magazine published an expert survey on how AI is changing production, featuring an interview with PI Probaligence on where AI is already used in manufacturing and what still holds adoption back.

Where AI is already used in manufacturing

  • Quality control. Image recognition for defect detection, and automated visual inspection, with defects caught in real time.
  • Predictive maintenance. AI-supported sensor analysis of machine condition, which optimizes maintenance cycles.
  • Process optimization. Intelligent production planning, raising overall efficiency and product quality.
  • Robotics. Self-learning manufacturing robots.

AI can also be used very effectively when it is based on simulation data.

What still holds adoption back

  • Insufficient data quantity or quality.
  • Complex integration into existing systems.
  • Security and data-protection requirements.
  • A shortage of skilled specialists, and potentially high investment costs.
  • Missing standards and best practices for large-scale AI deployment.

These factors delay implementation, and getting past them takes close cooperation between IT, production, and management.
