DLR to present the partner project with SGL Carbon and PI Probaligence at the DPG Annual Conference and Spring Meeting

DLR presents the joint project with SGL Carbon and PI Probaligence at the 2024 Annual Conference and Spring Meeting of the DPG (Deutsche Physikalische Gesellschaft): multi-scale simulation of a graphite-resin composite in which machine learning replaces FEM on the microscopic scale.

Research poster titled Multi-scale modelling and machine learning based simulation of the mechanical behavior of graphite-resin composites, by DLR, PI Probaligence, and SGL Carbon, showing microstructure scans, stress-strain curves, FE2 simulation equations, and the DIM-GP architecture.
The joint DLR, SGL Carbon, and PI Probaligence poster presented at the DPG Spring Meeting 2024.

Motivated by digital twin advancement, simulation techniques bridge diverse scales. Multi-scale FE2 simulations link microstructural properties to macroscopic behavior, and material failure is approached through phase field fracture mechanics.

To manage the computational demands, machine learning replaces FEM on the microscopic scale. The framework is applied to Diabon, a graphite-phenolic resin composite.
